Why Taylor’s?

With its foundations in oil boiler servicing, Taylor’s vans have been seen all over central Lincolnshire for almost 50 years. The company’s founders have now given way to their oldest son Simon and his family who now operate the business from the company’s showroom in Spilsby.

For a business with small beginnings, Taylor’s now works with big names such as Everwarm and Octopus Energy as well as local colleges and housing associations. The company’s ethos of quality work carried out by valued staff has put it in good stead with its' clients, from individuals to large corporates.

As you will see below, as well as our original offering of oil boiler servicing, Taylor’s now offers many different types of renewables from heat pumps to solar panels, and has worked with partners to get OFTEC, MCS, PAS 2030:2033 and other accreditations. This makes it the only company of its' type in the area and puts it in a prime position to work with groups such as Woldmarsh to foster great partnerships for the future.

Measures available to help save energy

Solar PV and Batteries

What is it?

Taylor's installs both solar pv and solar thermal panels. Solar PV (Photovoltaic) panels are designed to generate electricity by converting sunlight directly into electrical power. This current is then converted from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) by an inverter, making it suitable for use in homes and businesses. That power can be stored in batteries or used immediately as it is generated.

Solar thermal panels, on the other hand, are used to heat water or other fluids. They work by absorbing sunlight and converting it into heat. This heat is transferred to a fluid that circulates through the panels, which then heats water stored in a tank. Solar thermal systems are commonly used for domestic hot water.

Home eligibility

Solar panels are best fitted to roofs with a southerly elevation as this will get the most sunlight throughout the day. If a property has only east and west facing roofs, they can be used and still generate good results. North facing roofs are not suitable. As well as the correct elevation, the roof must be stable and have a strong construction. Any shading from tress or chimneys will cause a loss in generation, but this can be minimised by fitting optimisers to the panels.

How do I get it fitted?

For Woldmarsh customers, Taylor's offers a free survey. We will then check the construction of the roof, the aspects of available areas for the solar panels and space for inverters or batteries. We then provide a survey report showing potential savings over a 25 year period and the payback period.

How much will it cost?

A solar pv system without a battery will cost from £4,500 upwards whereas a system with a battery will cost from £8,500 upwards. A solar thermal system from £7,000 upwards making this a less popular retrofit measure. At present there are no grants available towards the cost of solar installations, but there is currently no vat payable.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump is an energy-efficient system used for heating buildings. Unlike traditional heating systems that generate heat by burning fuel, a heat pump moves existing heat from outside and transferring it inside.

There are two main types of heat pump: Air Source Heat Pumps: Extract heat from the outside air.

Ground Source (Geothermal) Heat Pumps: Use the stable temperature of the ground to exchange heat.

Heat pumps are highly efficient because they move heat rather than generate it, often providing 3-4 times the energy they consume. Lower energy consumption can lead to significant savings on utility bills. By using less electricity or fossil fuel, heat pumps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A single heat pump system can provide both heating and water heating.

Heat pumps generally require less maintenance compared to combustion-based heating systems. Although the installation cost can be higher than traditional systems, this is often offset by long-term savings and the £7,500 government grant. Air source heat pumps are most effective in moderate climates, while ground source heat pumps can be more efficient in extreme temperatures.

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and efficiency. Taylor's is MCS accredited and our staff have undergone in depth training.

Home eligibility

If the property has an EPC and has not had a heat pump fitted in the past, the heat pump installation will be eligible for the BUS Grant Scheme. Heat pump systems work most efficiently in properties which are well insulated so we always recommend that this is addressed in the first instance. Taylor's will be happy to advise on this.

How do I get it fitted?

Please contact us to arrange a (free for Woldmarsh members) survey and heat loss calculation report for the property. This will show any radiators that need replacing and the specification of the heat pump that our software and expertise recommends. On acceptance of the accompanying quotation, we generally fit within 4-6 weeks. The fitting process takes 3-4 days depending upon how many radiators (if any) need to be installed or replaced.

How much will it cost?

After the government grant, the cost of a new air source heat pump system is from around £4,000.

Insulation

Taylor's of Spilsby in Lincolnshire offers a comprehensive range of insulation services designed to enhance the energy efficiency and comfort of residential properties:

External Wall Insulation

Taylor's of Spilsby provides expert external wall insulation services, ideal for homes with solid walls that cannot be insulated internally. This service involves adding a layer of insulating material to the outside of a property’s walls, which is then covered with a protective render or cladding. This method not only improves the thermal efficiency of the home, reducing heat loss and energy bills, but also enhances the exterior appearance, offering a fresh, modern look.

Flat Roof Insulation

For properties with flat roofs, Taylor's offers specialised flat roof insulation services. This involves adding high-performance insulation materials below the existing roof structure. Proper flat roof insulation helps in maintaining consistent indoor temperatures, preventing heat loss in winter and excessive heat gain in summer, thereby improving overall energy efficiency and extending the life of your roof.

Room in Roof Insulation

Taylor's also provides room in roof insulation services for homes with attic conversions or loft spaces used as living areas. This service ensures that the sloping ceilings, dormer windows, and other complex areas are thoroughly insulated. By doing so, it prevents heat from escaping through the roof, making the space warmer in winter and cooler in summer, while also reducing energy costs.

Loft Insulation

Taylor's also specialise in loft insulation, a simple yet effective way to improve your home's energy efficiency. By insulating the loft floor or rood rafters with high-quality materials, they help to trap heat within your living spaces. This service is particularly beneficial in older homes where lofts are a major source of heat loss. Proper loft insulation can lead to significant savings on energy bills and contribute to a more comfortable home environment.

Each of these services is carried out by Taylor's experienced and skilled team, ensuring a high standard of workmanship and customer satisfaction. Whether you're looking to reduce energy bills, enhance comfort, or increase the value of your properties, Taylor’s insulation services are a smart investment.

Oil Boilers and Tanks

Taylor's has been servicing oil boilers since the company was started in 1976. We service and install all popular brands of oil boilers and tanks across central and Eastern Lincolnshire.

Our engineers are also trained ready for the conversion to HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), the bio alternative to kerosene heating oil and are able to convert the majority of existing oil boilers to run on this renewable when the time comes. We also ensure that any new installations of oil boiler are HVO ready.

If you have a property which needs a boiler service or repair, please contact us and we'll get one of our engineers over to you as soon as possible.

Please use the form below to get in touch with us. We will then contact you to discuss your requirements and arrange a surveyor visit.
